The Manes of Liberty, a horse to love...
The hairs of freedom
The aim of the association:
Give equines a second chance and find them an adoptive family. Once adopted, the equines are monitored and protected by an agreement.
Their missions
Managing abandonments
Since 2007, Les crins de liberté have been collecting abandoned horses and ponies and giving them a second life. They are sometimes completely wild or traumatized by their past, without food and without care. Les crins de liberté provides them with care, feeds them and helps them find a new family.
Cases of abuse
Abuse takes many forms and some perpetrators are unaware. Owners, due to lack of resources, do not provide care for their animals or leave them tied up for months. The association also saves these equines by taking them in. If you witness an act of neglect or abuse, you can notify the association here.
Save from the slaughterhouse
Many horses have "served" their entire lives only to end up in the dark corridors of death. Club retirees, draft horses raised for meat, racehorses reformed, horses of owners wishing to make a small profit on the back of an aging animal.
The association tries to help all these horses destined for the "wrong truck" by convincing breeders, horse dealers and individuals to give them the opportunity to find an adopter before it is too late.
The shelter
The Crins de Liberté have about fifteen hectares on which the different herds are established according to the needs and well-being of the equines. All the horses live in the meadow all day.
Each field has a shelter and work areas (lunge ring - riding arenas) have been set up to optimize and facilitate the breaking in, handling and work of the horses. Installed in very rural areas, all the horses are however regularly taken out for walks outside on foot and not ridden for the most part.
The horses are cared for, handled and broken in daily by a horse-rider who holds the Galop 7 Equitation, the Galop 4 Attelage, as well as the BAPAAT and the BEPA.
The association's volunteers are loyal to ensure, alongside the rider-caretaker, the tasks essential to the proper functioning: maintenance of pastures, care of equines, surveillance as well as helping during the association's events.
Adoptions
The ultimate goal of the association is to find new homes for equines under certain conditions:
- Equines must not be subjected to professional activity (to avoid abandonment once the animal is deemed "unusable".
- The association promotes the development of the horse above all. The 100% box is NOT a life for a horse.
- Intensive monitoring takes place once the equines are placed to ensure good living conditions and avoid a return to the meat circuit and/or suffering further mistreatment.
- The association refuses accommodation in boxes and encourages life in the open air with at least one other equine.
And for the others?
The shelter unfortunately has limited capacity, the association creates and distributes online announcements of emergency horses throughout the territory in order to optimize their chances of being saved.
The association also allows the purchase of an equine "outside the shelter". These equines do not belong to the association. Unable to accommodate them at the shelter,
They advertise in the hope that the association's visibility will give them a chance of not ending badly.
This story touched us
"Eclat was recovered by municipal decree because he had been wandering for several days in a small town in the department and had nearly caused an accident.
When we arrived, instead of a horse, we discovered a foal in a state of extreme thinness and very weak . The very next day, we had our veterinarian come to do a health check.
Unpromising results made us doubt his survival for several days. But with care and love, Eclat recovered incredibly and became a magnificent horse full of life !"
